William Penn University sociology professor Michael O. Johnston explores that question in his upcoming book, Smalltown Urban: Performing the City in Rural America. Drawing from research conducted in Oskaloosa and Pella, Johnston challenges common perceptions of small-town life and shows why quietness should not be mistaken for emptiness.
