William Penn University sociology professor Michael O. Johnston explores that question in his upcoming book, Smalltown Urban: Performing the City in Rural America. Drawing from research conducted in Oskaloosa and Pella, Johnston challenges common perceptions of small-town life and shows why quietness should not be mistaken for emptiness.

Last week, the Counseling Center welcomed students for Aloha Mocktails, giving them a chance to enjoy a refreshing drink and take a break from the busy start of the semester.

Events like this are also an important way to keep the Counseling Center visible and make sure students know about the resources available to support them throughout their time at Penn.

Students gathered for BBQ, inflatables, and games before walking the trail together to Statesmen Community Stadium.

The night ended the best way possible, with a Statesmen win!

What a way to kick off our first home football game of the season!

To our students, alumni, families, and Oskaloosa community, thank you for filling the stands, bringing the energy, and cheering on our Statesmen. Seeing so many familiar faces come out to support William Penn made the evening even more special.
