Good morning, Oshkosh! Today is the day! Come join us at the Morgan House for Pie on the Porch: A Slice of History from 9:00 AM–Noon!

Enjoy a delicious slice of homemade pie on the porch and then step inside for a tour of this beautiful 1884 historic home.

Tours are offered every 30 minutes, tours start at 9am.

We are so excited to see our Winnebago County Historical Society community continue to grow! Thank you for following along, sharing our stories, attending our events, and helping us preserve and celebrate the history of our community.

We truly couldn’t do what we do without all of you — your support helps us bring forgotten stories back to life, protect our local history, and create opportunities for everyone to connect with the past.

From Saloons to Storefronts: A Historical Walking Tour of Downtown Oshkosh Take a stroll through time and explore historic downtown Oshkosh

WHO AM I? – WEEK 1

I was born in Neenah in 1869, I was the youngest daughter. Ours was a large family, though heartbreak visited us often, and only five of the nine children lived to adulthood.

My childhood home stood on First Avenue, across from the First Ward School. Years later it would become Roosevelt Elementary School, though that building is now gone. In my day, the streets of Neenah were quieter, the schools were fewer, and nearly everyone knew one another.

One of my closest friends lived just down the street. Her name was Jessie, and people often joked that we looked so much alike we could have been sisters. Together we attended Neenah High School and graduated with the Class of 1885.

As graduation approached, I knew my future lay beyond my hometown. I packed my bags and headed to Chicago to pursue a profession that few women had yet mastered.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by yesterday's tornado in Neenah and Menasha.

The damage left behind is heartbreaking, and we know many families, businesses, and neighborhoods are facing difficult days ahead. We are thinking of all those impacted, as well as the first responders, utility crews, volunteers, and neighbors who have already stepped forward to help.

Throughout Winnebago County's history, our communities have faced hardship with remarkable strength and compassion. Time and again, people have come together to support one another, and we have no doubt that same spirit will shine through once again.

If you're looking for a way to help, Volunteer Fox Cities is coordinating volunteer efforts and has opened a standby volunteer sign-up for those interested in supporting response and recovery efforts. At this time, volunteers are asked to register for standby while response agencies assess community needs and determine where assistance is needed. Registering now will help ensure volunteers can be mobilized quickly when opportunities become available.
