Congratulations to UW-Oshkosh alumna Emily McFarland on her appointment as the next Executive Director of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities!
Emily’s leadership in local government and public service continues to make a positive impact across Wisconsin. She will become the first woman to lead the organization in its 128-year history.
We are incredibly proud of our alumni who, like Emily, are making a profound impact in their communities.
The League of Wisconsin Municipalities has selected Emily McFarland as its next Executive Director, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the sixth executive director in the League’s 128-year history and its first woman to hold the role.
McFarland will succeed retiring Executive Director Jerry Deschane following more than three decades of service to Wisconsin local government. The announcement was made by League Board President Randy Meyer after a nationwide search.
McFarland brings extensive experience in municipal leadership, public policy, and state and federal government relations, having most recently served as Vice President of Development and Administration for a housing development company and previously as Mayor of Watertown.
She is expected to begin her role in early July and will work alongside Deschane during a transition period.

What an amazing day!
A transformational day for UW–Oshkosh and the future of healthcare and STEM education.
Today, distinguished alumna Mary Novak-Jandrey has made the largest gift in university history, a $10 million investment advancing nursing, health professions and STEM at UW–Oshkosh.
As a first-generation nursing student, Mary’s Titan journey began right here at UW–Oshkosh. The education she received and the faculty who guided her helped shape a career spanning healthcare, science and industry.
Her historic investment will now ensure that future students have the same opportunity to learn, collaborate, innovate and lead through expanded interdisciplinary programs, innovative learning environments and long-term support for their success.
In recognition of her extraordinary generosity, the College of Nursing, Health Professions and STEM will be named in her honor.
This is Titan impact in action, where the education you receive shapes your future and, that impact lives on through generations of students. 🖤💛
