Spellbound for Literacy 2026 was one we will forever remember!

Thank you once again to everyone who was able to attend our annual fundraiser this year or contributed to the event, whether that was as a sponsor, donor, volunteer, attendee, or advocate. We also want to give a shoutout to the Oshkosh Seed Savers for being our Spellbound for Literacy Champions and our wonderful learner Gloria for speaking at our event and sharing her story and how the Winnebago Area Literacy Council has influenced her life!

Together, we celebrated literacy, community, and the incredible impact that can be made when people come together to support learning for all. 📚💙

This past Saturday, in collaboration with the LWV of Winnebago County, we had the opportunity to host our first Voter Education Workshop session! Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event possible. A special shoutout to The Taqueria - Oshkosh for allowing us to host the workshop at your location.

Don't forget that our next session will be this Friday, October 9, from 2:00-3:00 PM at the Oshkosh Public Library! The registration link can be found below.

These workshops are designed for both new and experienced voters and cover topics such as how and where to vote, along with voter registration assistance. Materials will be available in English, Spanish, Hmong, Burmese, Karen, Dari, and Arabic.

These past two days, our team had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Forward Conference. Not only did two of our staff members participate as panelists, but we were also honored to receive the Innovative Program of the Year Award for our GROW Program!

Our Executive Director, Dr. Chu, joined Dr. Juan Garcia Oyervides and Amanda Martinez for their session, Language Justice for All: Advancing Health Equity in WI. Our Assistant Director, Emma Thompson, also shared WALC's perspective during the session When the Need is Specific, the Curriculum Should Be Too, alongside colleagues from Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County, Literacy Network, and Wisconsin Literacy.

We want to thank Wisconsin Literacy for hosting another wonderful conference and for honoring our GROW Program with the Innovative Program of the Year Award. We are proud to share this recognition with our staff, volunteers, partners, and learners who make our work possible every day.

Thank you to the Hmong Service Center Inc. for your generous contribution to our organization. It is thanks to partners like you that we can provide educational opportunities, support lifelong learning, and help individuals achieve their goals! 💗

President Mee Yang and the Hmong Service Center, Inc. proudly present a $3,000 donation check to Executive Director, Dr. Chu May Paing, Winnebago Area Literacy Council, to assist low-literacy individuals in the community, including citizens, refugees and immigrants.

Yesterday, students from Professor Klein's Women and Gender Studies class at UWO had the opportunity to visit our Women and Children Program at St. Andrews Church.

During their visit, they met our learners, volunteers, and staff, explored our classroom spaces, and toured our GROW Community Garden.

These students will be volunteering with us on an exciting project throughout the semester. Stay tuned for more details about this upcoming collaboration!
