Join us in celebrating Alondra Hester Rivas and her inspiring journey!
Major: Special Education Cross-Categorical (K–12)
Alondra’s college experience is a powerful reminder of what it means to persevere. One of her favorite memories came during her junior year after returning from studying abroad in Japan; Walking through a vibrant campus in September and, for the first time, truly feeling like she wasn't alone.
Advice to future TRIO SSS students:
“Take a chance. You don’t have to start perfectly, you just have to start.”
Her Story & Achievements:
Alondra began her college journey at 21, facing uncertainty as a first-generation student navigating financial, academic, and personal challenges. Through determination, family support, and campus resources like TRIO and the Lawton Grant, she found her path.
• Became a Community Advisor, helping support her college journey
• Earned Honor Roll recognition
• Studied abroad in Japan
• Graduating with honors
• First in her family to graduate from college
What’s next?
Alondra plans to return to Japan to work as an educator, continuing her passion for teaching and cultural connection.
Her journey is proof that beginnings don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. What matters is continuing forward.
