Vote Tomorrow! Throughout the campaign season people have asked me why I want to run for a 2nd term. The answer is easy. I love this community. I want to see it grow, prosper and continue to enhance our rich cultural vitality. To make all of these things possible we need to have a strong public school system. We owe this to each and every student who attends an OASD school. The goal is to provide an education that prepares a student for future personal success. I want to work toward that goal. You have seen in my past posts that literacy, teacher attraction and retention, facilities and community partnerships are critical if we want to succeed. Together, we as a community can support each other, interact, listen to each other and work toward a shared purpose that will make our community economically successful and strong in so many ways. It takes all of us and I want to ensure that we have a strong public school system that will allow us to achieve our student and community goals as we work toward being a district of choice.
The Herd, one of the OASD partners, is just one example of a community partnership that makes Oshkosh a great place to live.

Five days remain until election day.
Facilities - We are so lucky to have two new schools: Vel Phillips Middle and Menominee Elementary. These schools provide (1) Improved learning spaces for our students and teachers, (2) operational savings (approx $609,000 at Vel Phillips) and (3) improved stduent and staff experiences beccause part time staff no longer needs to travel between multiple schools. We have learned that improved learning spaces do matter. They attract educators and help engage students. I support moving forward to have safe, efficient, modern learning spaces while always considering the tax impact on the citizens of Oshkosh.

Six days until the election. Today's topic
Teacher attraction and retention. To be able to provide the most consistent and valuable education for our stuents we need to host a positive culture, adequate training, relevant facilities and benefits that make a teacher want to stay within our district. They are the glue that holds us together and need to feel heard, valued and respected. Thank you teachers

The school board election is one week away. I am running as an incumbent for one more term. Consistency, patience and rigor on math and literacy is the key to student success. I believe our board has set a foundation on which to grow and I want to be part of the district's success in the short term and long term.

Had a great time reading to the 2nd graders at Washington School during their monthly readathon. I was volunteer reader #36 this month. Thank you to all of the community members who are making literacy a priority.

Three weeks until the election. It’s been an exciting campaign season. My focus if reelected is on Literacy, Facilities and Community.

Today More On Literacy - The goal is meeting every child where they are to develop an individual plan to get them to grade level and/or challenge them even more to excel above grade level. This is a complex goal knowing that we have 61 languages spoken in our district. With that being said we know that an increase in literacy rates attracts workforce, draws talent and provides workers to the community. Students need to be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking to take advantage of the opportunities that await.

It’s been an exciting week of celebrating our teachers. Last night the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation held the annual Celebrate Education event. Over $76,000 was awarded to 62 teachers (44 from the OASD) for grants of projects to be done in the classroom. Congratulations.

I got to celebrate with Olivia Hoopman, a kindergarten teacher at Roosevelt, who received one of the outstanding elementary teacher awards. I’ve known Olivia since she was a child and I’m so proud that she chose teaching as a career and is the perfect example of an enthusiastic educator in our district.

So excited to be at Band-O-Rama last Saturday evening in a packed gym at North High School. The sixth graders mastering Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star is proof that willingness and effort creates success. The final song of the night, Sleigh Ride, featured all 6th grade through high school musicians. It was so much fun and so inspirational. Thank you students, parents, and conductors. Great Job.
In case you missed it here it is.
