I follow a couple of artists who share reference photos on Instagram, and I occasionally use their photos in my sketchbook.

I even less occasionally share mine!

You'll notice that two are from the same reference. Because I really didn't like my first attempt. Trying again was a fun exercise. Maybe sometime I'll try it a third time to see if I can do better yet.

I set a goal to do 100 drawings from my spring break vacation this year, and it's been slow going...but here's the latest one from my sketchbook. It's an image from Great Smoky National Park.

It's gouache and watercolor with a few touches of colored pencils, done in my mixed media sketchbook by Ohuhu.

I've been totally slacking on posting, but I wanted to share these paintings that I did for a spooky little gallery wall for Halloween. Disclaimer, the ghost and cloud were based on pictures that I liked on Pinterest. But I'm excited to add a few more spooky paintings for next year's Halloween decor.

A couple of weeks ago I finished my "100 Trees" sketchbook, and was so busy that I never posted anything about it. But I want to celebrate finishing that sketchbook, albeit belated. So here are a few trees for you.

Not gonna lie, the black paper was more of a challenge than I expected. I was limited in what materials would show up. But I got through it. 😅

My new sketchbook will also have a "100 challenge" in it (because I have a love/hate relationship with them, but there's more love than hate...the hate usually doesn't settle in until around #65 or so). It will be "100 things that I saw on my spring break trip.". And to kick it off, I had a spill in my backpack on the plane ride home, so the sketchbook has some barbeque sauce stains. They fit perfectly with the theme.

About two weeks ago I was introduced to and . It built on skills and knowledge that I had, and taught me some pretty cool stuff. And I've been busy since then making a surface design collection! It has been so much fun...I can't wait to get working on collection #2!
But for now, here's a little look at some of the collection, which I've named Garden Grow, because all of the whimsical, loopy flowers make me think of sing songy nursery rhymes, like "How does your garden grow?". This design that I'm featuring in this post is called "Rings Around Rosies."
The whole collection is now up on spoonflower.com, so you can see or buy any of them there. My profile name is The_Art_Paige.
