To modern ears, Christianity can sometimes sound judgmental. 🫢

That is because our modern relativistic culture increasingly treats questions of truth, goodness, and beauty as merely personal preference: “You have your truth, and I have mine.”

Christianity, on the other hand, teaches that reality has an order—that some things are truly good, some better, and some bad. God is not only the source of Goodness, but the ultimate standard by which all is measured. 📏

This does not mean Christians are called to stand above others in self-righteous judgment. We are all sinners, being drawn upward by the same God.

Our ancestors understood that an ordered world is not "oppressive" merely because it distinguishes right from wrong. This hierarchy gives life direction. It tells us that our choices matter, that sacrifice can be meaningful, and that there is something greater than comfort, entertainment, status, and money. ☀️

Modern relativism promised "freedom" from judgment. But when nothing is higher than anything else, it becomes difficult to explain why anything is worth pursuing or sacrificing for. Is it any surprise that so many of our children feel directionless, anxious, or starved for meaning?

Christianity offers us something far more beautiful: a summit to ascend. 🏔️

Holy order is not something to fear. It means there is a real Good, real Love, real Truth, real Beauty—and that, through God’s grace, we are invited to participate in them. ✝️

We regularly ask ourselves, "What do I WANT to do?"

As Christians, though, we are called to ask far more meaningful questions, such as:
"What SHOULD I do?"
"What am I MEANT to do?"

In a world created by God... everything has a meaning. Everything has a purpose. A "TELOS." (ex. 1Tim 1:5, Rom 10:4, Rev 22:13)

Often translated into English as "end," Telos has a far deeper meaning. The idea of telos is that in God's creation, everything that exists has a highest possible purpose... an ideal form.

For example, the telos of an acorn is to become a healthy oak tree.

If everything in creation has a telos, then that means you have one too! There's you today... and a better you tomorrow... and you someday... as the best version of yourself possible.

As Christians, it's our duty to God to pursue our telos. To seek our telos and become better tomorrow than we are today. To struggle against sin and strive to become more Christlike each day.

The modern world says, "You are perfect the way you are."
Ancient Christianity says, "You are loved the way you are, but meant for more."

As our children mature and begin making decisions for themselves, it's worth asking... How should they make those decisi...

As our children mature and begin making decisions for themselves, it's worth asking... How should they make those decisions?

Who should I spend time with?
Should I study or go out?
What should I watch?
What activities should shape my life?
What kind of person am I becoming?

Many of us are just going through the world on autopilot. We look around us to see what other people are doing, and mimic accordingly.

Ideally, we would model our minds after God.
- Our behavior reveals our values.
- Our values reveal our beliefs.
- Our beliefs are shaped by our worldview — our basic picture of what is real, good, and worth living for.

If our children absorb the worldview of the modern world, they'll likely end up over-prioritizing "freedom" and "comfort". Basically, doing whatever feels good in the moment. Pleasure-seeking.

As Christians, we are called to something greater. Behavior that reflects a higher reality. Something beyond ourselves and beyond our own fleeting desires/urges/comfort/feelings.

Our children are being formed either way. The only question is: by whom, toward what, and according to which vision of the good life?

Reflect on your own worldview:
What ideas/people/institutions influence you?
What experiences form your beliefs?
What do you tend to over/under-prioritize?
Who has your ear/attention most often?

Do these influences bring you closer to God, or further from? Closer to truth, beauty, goodness, sacrifice, love... or further from?

The modern world tries to convince us that religion is just superstition.

The world sells us "materialism" which says only the material world exists. Matter, cells, chemicals, etc.

The logical implication of this idea is ugly.

If the material world is all that exists, then the things we value most don't exist: Truth. Beauty. Goodness. Love. Justice.

If it's all just cells and chemicals, then these things we hold most dear are just figments of our imagination. Social constructs.

Ask yourself...
- Is the murder of an innocent life ACTUALLY bad, or is it just your OPINION?
- Is a mother sacrificing for her children ACTUALLY good, or is it just your opinion?

If you answer "ACTUALLY" - then that means you are religious. If murder is truly evil and sacrificial love is truly good, then the world you live in is spiritual.

Religion is merely the belief or understanding that there is a spiritual reality. The knowledge that good/bad, true/false, right/wrong, actually exist... and that the way we live in this world truly matters.

Modernity sells materialism as "scientific" and "enlightened." In reality, a material-only world doesn't make sense. Science isn't wrong; it's just incomplete and insufficient to explain reality.

Ancient Christian thinking offers something far deeper, more meaningful, and more explanatory:
- The love you feel for your family is real.
- The sacrifice of a soldier is holy.
- The murder of innocents is evil.
- Your life is filled with meaning, and you have a higher purpose.

There is the world of "matter," and the world of "what matters."

Don't let the world convince you or your kids that they're naive or superstitious for being Christian. In truth, the world is full of meaning, and your lives are full of purpose.
