Originally from Oroville, Magen Miranda came to Butte College with a simple goal: to rebuild her future through education. After years of struggling with addiction, homelessness, and instability, she made the decision to pursue sobriety and enroll in classes at the Chico Center in fall 2023. Staff members connected her with resources through the Roadrunner Hub, where she received help accessing food assistance and transitional housing.

Like many students, Booker Burnett began college unsure of exactly what he wanted to do. What he did know was that Butte College offered opportunities to explore different paths while building toward a future career.

After graduating high school during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kevin Vang wasn’t sure if college was the right next step for him. He decided to take a two-year break and started experimenting with music production software during that time. His developing passion for music prompted him to eventually enroll at Butte College and pursue a degree in music. Getting involved in the music program helped him refine his creative expression, while also bringing him community, support, and confidence in himself.
