Speech and Debate is back! 🎉

At their first tournament of the semester, the Speech & Debate Team came out strong! After two back-to-back days of competition at the San Francisco State University Golden Gate Opener, the team brought home an incredible 34 individual awards, along with the 2nd Place Community College Team Award and the 3rd Place Overall Team Award. With 27 colleges competing from across California, Oregon, Nevada, and even Texas, our students really stood out!

We’re especially excited to have so many new members joining the team this season, and it was wonderful to see them jump right into competition alongside our returning students. We’re so proud of the team’s strong start and can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings!

Our Speech & Debate team just completed a monumental week at the Community College Nationals in Bethesda, Maryland/Washington DC! This incredible group won SILVER OVERALL and SILVER for INDIVIDUAL EVENTS in the medium school division, the largest division at the tournament. This year, the Phi Rho Pi Nationals hosted over 50 community colleges from across the U.S. in nearly a week of competition with the best students around the country. In addition to the team awards, our students earned 11 medals individually and coach Shannan was awarded the Collie-Taylor fellowship award for our region.
This was an incredible experience to be at a tournament in the nations’ capital where we constantly surrounded by and reminded of the power of advocacy and value of speech.
