LOCATION – Bordering Québec at the crossroads of Atlantic Canada and New England, the Office of Canadian Studies Outreach is based at the Canadian-American Center on the campus of the University of Maine, Orono. Positioned at the gateway to the interior, along the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes, the Center for the Study of Canada and Institute on Quebec Studies is based on the campus of P
lattsburgh State University of New York. Their combined Canadian Studies Outreach programming produces national outreach and professional development to a national audience, providing background and addressing topics related to American and Canadian relations and understanding. OUTREACH – The Office of Canadian Studies Outreach works with the Center for the Study of Canada at Plattsburgh State University of New York to provide Professional Development trainings and Teacher Resources. Working in consort with Canadian Consulates in the U.S., state educational collaboratives, geography alliances, and regional and national organizations of teachers of French, Geography and Social Studies, the Office of Canadian Studies Outreach and partners offers workshops, presentations, publications, teaching materials, and in-Canada professional development such as the study tours Summer Institute for K-12 Professionals and the Summer Institute for Teachers of French. This outreach programming seeks to bridge the gap between uninformed beliefs and a true understanding of Canadian people. THE STUDY OF CANADA is an important element in educating this and future generations of leaders, to enable them to understand and participate in global interdependence. Educating ourselves and our students about the impact of U.S.-Canadian issues in our lives builds upon our desire to interact with Canadians as good neighbors, important economic partners, and valued friends.
