Things get a little weird going from VFR to IFR. As VFR pilots, mostly looking outside with less emphasis on an instrument scan becomes the “way” we fly. As IFR pilots, we learn a whole new way. It’s kind of hard to adjust to that at first, especially if you didn’t take a break just to fly for fun and went from your private pilot checkride straight to IFR training. So if you’re in the thick of IFR training now and not enjoying the growing pains, just know that you’re building really important skills that will make you the safest pilot you can be. Once you feel these skills come to life, you’ll thank yourself for going through the foggles-on-a-beautiful-day thing. It’s absolutely worth it! ✈️ ✈️

Lightning just punched a plane in the face mid-flight and everyone inside kept scrolling Instagram like nothing happened 😅⚡

Here's the wild part: a commercial plane gets struck by lightning roughly once a year, on average - and nobody inside even notices. The aircraft's outer skin acts like a giant Faraday cage, so the electricity just... rides along the surface and exits out the tail or wingtips. Doesn't touch the cabin. Doesn't touch you. Doesn't touch your coffee.

Basically the plane takes one for the team every single time. ✈️🛡️

Radio calls can sound incomprehensible at first. It can feel like information overload. There are only a few things that will ever be transmitted over the radios on normal calls (the who, the where, the what). After you learn to expect that information, it will become like second nature to make and interpret those calls! ✈️
