Let's all congratulate Luz Hitch for dominating her WODs on the regular, and truly earning this month's EOB Member of the Month! Here are her awesome Q&As!
Congratulations Luz Mery Hitch! 🔱
How did you get exposed to CrossFit? I've always loved being active and exercising. Growing up, I played many different sports and stayed active every day. One day, I kept driving past a building with a big CrossFit sign, and it made me curious about what CrossFit was really like. It only took one class for me to fall in love with the intensity, challenge, and sense of accomplishment it brought.
What brought you to EOB?
I move to Ormond Beach 10 months ago from South Florida, I tried 3 different place in the area but EOB defanally was the one.
What was your very first day at EOB like?
I moved to Ormond Beach 10 months ago from South Florida. After moving, I tried three different CrossFit gyms in the area, but EOB was definitely the one that felt like home. From the coaches to the members, everyone was welcoming and supportive, and I knew right away it was the right fit for me.
What kind of changes have you experienced since starting CrossFit that were completely unexpected?
The changes have gone far beyond just my physical fitness. My body is stronger, my mindset is more positive, and my energy levels are higher than ever. CrossFit has also helped me make healthier choices in my daily life. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that getting older is often a state of mind. CrossFit has shown me that age doesn't have to limit what you're capable of achieving.
Tell us some of your recent accomplishments. What goals do you have for this year?
One of my biggest struggles during the Open was pull-ups. I still remember Melissa laughing while she was judging me because of how much I was struggling—but we had a lot of fun with it! Last week, I got my first strict pull-up, and today I can do three in a row. A couple of months ago, I was also able to do some handstand walking for the first time, which was a huge accomplishment for me. I owe a lot of these achievements to the coaches and their support.
My goal for this year is to continue improving my gymnastics skills, build more strength, and keep pushing myself to achieve things I once thought were impossible.
What is your favorite movement and if you could make up your own workout what would it be?
My favorite movements are gymnastics movements because they challenge both strength and skill. If I could create my own workout, it would be:
30-20-10
Cleans
Burpees over the bar
Sit-ups
With 10 handstand push-ups between each round. It would be a tough workout, but it combines some of my favorite movements and would be a lot of fun!" 💪🏋️♀️🤸♀️
Hobbies, Talents and or Interests Outside of CrossFit:
My husband and I have a collection of cars, and I love working on them. Being a mechanic is one of my favorite hobbies, and I enjoy learning new skills and taking on different projects. I also like to crochet, which is a great way to relax and be creative. In addition, I love traveling and exploring new places whenever I get the chance.
Advice for new CrossFitters:
Just keep showing up and trust the process. Consistency is the key to progress. Enjoy your hour at the gym—it’s your happy hour! Have fun, celebrate the small victories, and remember that everyone starts somewhere.
Fun Fact no one knows about you:
I hate shopping so much that my husband buys almost everything for me. While most people enjoy a shopping trip, I'd rather spend my time at the gym, working on cars, or planning my next trip! 😄
