During the Mindful Morsels week of our Summer Session, children entered a world where storytelling, song, movement, art, and nourishing food became part of one living experience.

Together, they measured, stirred, chopped, tasted, created, and discovered that preparing food can be an act of care—for ourselves, for one another, and for the Earth.

In a world of convenience, we believe there is something profoundly valuable about children knowing how to create something nourishing and beautiful with their own two hands.

Nature’s invisible ink.

A blank page.

A little curiosity.

Then…wonder.

Our kindergarteners began by painting with a simple mixture of baking soda and water. Their favorite nature scenes remained hidden until a brush dipped in turmeric revealed what had been there all along. 🌿💫🌼

Moments like these remind us that some of the deepest learning begins with curiosity.

When children’s hands are busy creating, their minds are asking questions, making connections, and discovering that the world is full of surprises waiting to be uncovered.

Fridays are extra special at Sunrise. Our Honeysuckle Garden program invites our youngest children and their caregivers into the gentle rhythms of our beautiful wooded campus.

Together, we gather beneath the trees for open-ended play, seasonal songs, simple handcrafts, nourishing snacks shared around the table, and quiet moments of wonder in nature. Here, little ones are free to explore at their own pace while parents find connection, community, and space to grow alongside one another.

Friendships bloom. Confidence takes root. And a lifelong love of the natural world begins with muddy boots, joyful hearts, and the simple beauty of being together.

Last year, our Grade 5 students explored fractions through watercolor, geometry, and beautifully illustrated main lesson books.

In Waldorf education, children are invited to experience mathematical relationships before they’re asked to abstract them. Color, pattern, proportion, symmetry, and beauty become part of the learning itself.

This doesn’t replace rigor—it lays the foundation for it.
