🌱 Where a Love of Dance Begins

At ages 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, dance education should not be about rushing children into formal technique.

It should be about giving them the space to move, imagine, listen, explore, create, and discover what their bodies can do.

Our Foundations in Dance classes are thoughtfully designed for these important early years:

✨ Creative Movement | Ages 3–4
A joyful introduction to movement, music, rhythm, imagination, and the experience of learning together.

✨ Dance Exploration | Ages 5–6
Children begin to develop greater coordination, musical awareness, movement vocabulary, creativity, and confidence in the studio.

✨ Pre-Ballet | Ages 6–7
A developmentally appropriate introduction to the foundations of classical ballet, preparing young dancers for the more structured training ahead.

These are not simply smaller versions of classes for older dancers.

They are classes created specifically for the way young children learn.

We want our youngest students to associate dance with curiosity, discovery, accomplishment, and joy while gradually developing the focus, coordination, musicality, and confidence that will support them for years to come.

Some will grow up to become serious dancers. Some will not.

But every child deserves a beautiful beginning.

πŸ’— Registration is open for our 2026–2027 season.
We would love to welcome your young dancer into the studio.

🩰 Fall Registration is OPEN! ✨

A new season is taking shape at Ormond Ballet, and we are excited to welcome our dancers back into the studio for 2026–2027!

This year brings some thoughtful changes to the schedule and curriculum:

✨ A more manageable four-day training week for Levels 2–6
Classes and rehearsals are concentrated on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, leaving Wednesdays and Fridays open for homework, rest, and life outside the studio.

πŸ’ƒ Character Dance joins the curriculum
Character Dance replaces Jazz and Hip Hop for Levels 2–6, giving dancers another important layer of classical training through rhythm, musicality, theatricality, and national dance traditions.

πŸ‘₯ Partnering is back for Levels 5–6
Our advanced dancers will once again have the opportunity to develop the technique, timing, trust, and communication required for classical pas de deux work.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ©° More options for our youngest and adult dancers, too
Wednesdays now feature our Foundations of Dance (Creative Movement, Dance Exploration, and Pre-Ballet) classes along with separate Beginner and Intermediate Adult Ballet classes.

We have worked carefully to create a schedule that provides serious, well-rounded training while giving our dancers a more sustainable week.

πŸŽ“ Beyond the Barre | Why Summer Training Matters

When people think of summer dance, they often imagine learning new steps or getting ahead for the next season.

While those things certainly happen, they're not what make summer training so valuable.

Without the demands of school, dancers have the opportunity to slow down, focus, and truly engage with the learning process. They have the time to ask questions, refine their technique, explore artistry, and build confidence one class at a time.

Growth doesn't always happen in dramatic leaps. More often, it appears quietly and in greater focus, stronger work habits, a deeper understanding of movement, or the confidence to embrace a correction.

These are the moments that shape not only better dancers, but thoughtful, resilient young people.

As we reflect on this summer, we're grateful for every student who chose to spend part of their break investing in their growth. Their dedication reminds us that the most meaningful progress is often found in the daily work, one class at a time.

A Thought to Take With You...

The purpose of training is not simply to learn more steps. It is to become more attentive, more curious, and more fully yourself through the work.

Inside the Studio: A Season of Growth

As we wrap up an incredible summer, we're taking a moment to reflect on everything our dancers accomplished together.

From May 26 through July 30, our Summer Session kept the studio buzzing with daily classes, laughter, hard work, and steady growth. Then, during our two-week Summer Dance Intensive, dancers immersed themselves in an inspiring experience alongside exceptional guest faculty, exploring ballet, variations, contemporary, modern, conditioning, and artistry.

Summer wasn't about rushing ahead.

It was about slowing down enough to refine, explore, ask questions, and grow.

To every dancer who showed up ready to work, thank you for making this a summer session to remember.

Over the next two weeks, while the studio takes a short break, we'll be sharing some of our favorite moments from the summer and introducing you to the people and experiences that made it so meaningful.

We can't wait to welcome everyone back for an exciting fall season.

πŸ‚ Fall enrollment is now open.

Day 3 of our Summer Dance Intensive πŸ©°πŸ’–. Our dancers are getting stronger and smarter πŸ’ͺπŸ€“. Scroll to the end to see them working on their group project on Ballet Around the World 🌎. They had to present the defining characteristics and ballets they are known for in their assigned ballet company. We studied La Scala Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and the New York City Ballet. They also got to spend another amazing day with Ms. Zhanna Dubrovskaya and Mr. Jeremiah Garner.

Some footage of a few of our advanced dancers on the first day of our Summer Dance Intensive with the fabulous Ms. Zhanna Dubrovskaya πŸ©°πŸ’–. We had a wonderful first day and look forward to the rest of the week with our intermediate and advanced dancers ✨

One of the lessons from our Artist Hour today was this:

Technique is only one part of becoming an artist. Every pliΓ©, every rehearsal, every performance exists within a centuries-long conversation about beauty, expression, discipline, and humanity. Understanding that larger context helps our dancers approach their training with greater purpose and intention.

This lesson isn't really about dance history. It's about belonging. We aim to have our students leave feeling that they are heirs to a living artistic tradition.

Summer isn't a break from trainingβ€”it's an important part of it. 🩰

One question we often hear is, "Does my dancer really need to attend a summer intensive?"

Our answer is simple: yes.

Dance is unlike many other activities. Technique is built through consistency, repetition, and thoughtful progression. Taking several months away from focused training can make it difficult for dancers to maintain the strength, flexibility, coordination, and technical precision they worked so hard to develop throughout the year.

While many dancers travel away for summer intensivesβ€”and we wholeheartedly encourage those opportunities when they are the right fitβ€”we also recognize that not every family is able to travel or commit to a residential program. That is exactly why we have developed the Ormond Ballet Summer Intensive.

Our goal is to provide our dancers with the same commitment to excellence they experience throughout the year while introducing them to new faculty, fresh perspectives, and an immersive training environment that supports continued growth. Summer training helps dancers return in the fall stronger, more confident, and better prepared for the next level of their development.

At Ormond Ballet, our Summer Intensive isn't simply about taking more classes. It's about refining technique, developing artistry, expanding creativity, learning from distinguished guest artists, and continuing the disciplined training that allows dancers to reach their fullest potential.

Whether your dancer dreams of a professional career or simply wants to become the very best version of themselves, consistent summer training is one of the greatest investments they can make in their dance education.
