Gateway and Cherokee School Naming Survey 2 10/15/2020

Dear Gateway and Cherokee Families,

We are moving into the second phase of the Gateway Cherokee Consolidated Campus naming process. The first survey closed on October 9, 2020, with 43 possible school names. Committee members met virtually on October 12, 2020, to narrow down school names to six choices that stood out more than others.

As we prepare to present the top three school names to the Area Superintendent and School Board, please select one school name from the choices given in this survey. Survey 2 will be open from October 15, 2020, and close on October 21, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. Please click the link below to complete the survey.

• During the week of October 5, 2020 through October 9, 2020, a committee will be formed consisting of both schools.
• After the survey has closed, the joint committee will review all submissions, narrow the list of choices, and create a new ballot with recommended names for the community to select the top three names.
• The second survey will be available to the community on October 15, 2020 through October 21, 2020. As a part of the process, the committee will tabulate the votes to determine the three names with the highest votes.
When submitting a name, please consider the following:
• The historical or current name of the community or local area of the new school
• The historical or geographical features of the community or local area of the new school
• The new name should not include or reference Gateway or Cherokee School
Captured email addresses for this survey will allow us to contact individuals should there be any questions regarding the name suggestion. Multiple submissions of potential names are allowable for consideration.

As part of our commitment to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, and be in compliance with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, our school conducted its first enhanced staff training session prior to an active assailant drill. The drill is now complete and the drill was a success. We have returned to our regularly scheduled classroom instruction. Thank you for your continued support in the safety of all our students.

in accordance with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, Cherokee School will participate in an enhanced staff training session that will occur prior to an active assailant drill tomorrow. You may see additional public safety personnel and district administrators on campus, who have been working closely to develop the training to enhance the safety of all schools and meet the new requirement. Your child will be informed prior to the start of and at the conclusion of the drill. I will also be sure to notify parents when the drill has been completed.
