Aloha Bobcat Ohana:

What a fantastic week we had here at Palm Lake E.S.. Our Second Graders brought the world a little closer with their Dances Around the World performance and our Kindergarteners got to learn about the oceans and the animals that inhabit them during their trip to Sea World. Our classrooms are bustling with the buzz of academic excellence and Spring is in the air.

While Spring is in the air, animals are on the ground and enjoying this weather as well. Please rest assured that our teachers are vigilant and will move children away from any areas where snakes may have come out to sun and they have told their students to let them know if they see any unexpected critters. Please follow-up and speak with your children about leaving any animals they find alone and notifying their teacher. ๐Ÿ˜Š

There seems to be a sort of outdoorsy theme brewing here so letโ€™s continue down that path. Mrs. Mann is gearing up for Read Across America week beginning Monday and has been hard at work setting up Camp Read Sโ€™More. Students will visit CAMP READ Sโ€™MORE to checkout new books, find a campsite, and read under the stars with flashlights. On your assigned day, be sure to wear your camping clothes, and if you have your own favorite flashlight, be sure to bring that, too! Please see the Bobcat News (Attached) for your day to go to camp. We canโ€™t wait to see all of our Palm Lake campers at CAMP READ Sโ€™MORE! Be sure to grab your books and flashlights so we can go on the many adventures found in the pages of our amazing books!

Our number of Lost and Found items continues to grow. On March 15, the Friday before Spring Break, all unclaimed Lost and Found items will be collected and placed in the donation bin in our parking lot. As a reminder, these donations bring money back to our school, so I guess it is appropriate to thank you for the donation ๐Ÿ˜Š. Also, if you find any gently used clothing items around the house as you do your spring cleaning, please consider donating the items to our collection bin located in the parking lot on the Building 6 side of the lot.

I know this is a repeat from last week, but in light of the stomach virus running through our school at the end of the week I think it deserves to be said again. Please remember that children who have a fever or are leaking fluids (Vomiting, Diarrhea, Excessive runny nose) should stay home for twenty-four (24) hours after symptoms have stopped without the use of medication. Please help us keep our students, faculty and staff, and community healthy by following these guidelines.

Be sure to check the Bobcat News link below as we have our 5th Grade Science PMA 3 assessment Thursday morning and our National Elementary Honor Society Inductions in the evening at 5:30. The calendar will also share the Camp Read Sโ€™more dates for our students.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and we will see you around the campus.

I wish you well,

Jim

Aloha Bobcat Ohana!

It is good to be back. I have been down and out for a bit dealing with some illness but am glad to be back at school. We have been able to address some technical issues and can now add attachments to these messages. Yay! We will now be adding a new feature to the Notes! and that is the Bobcat News calendar for a quick snapshot of the upcoming events at PLE. You can, of course, continue checking social media, the PTA webpage, and your childโ€™s backpack for the most up-to-date information. This calendar will be accessed via a link embedded at the bottom of the Notes! called Bobcat News followed by the Monday date. For example this week's link is Bobcat News 02.26.24 located at the bottom of this email. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I know mornings can be hectic, especially when it rains, in getting the kids ready, loaded in the car with backpacks, lunches, siblings in tow, and off to school. Please exercise patience and caution while on our campus for drop-off and pick-up. Remember that when your child leaves the car in the morning or enters your car in the afternoon that safety procedures and vigilance still are necessary and it is not the time to race off to work or to get to the kidsโ€™ practices. The extra ten seconds or so that you โ€œgainโ€ are not worth an accident or injury to a child or yourself. Please plan ahead for inclement weather as we do experience heavier traffic patterns those days which do cause some delays in our normal traffic patterns.

I can attest with certain surety that germs are everywhere and running rampant in our classrooms and community.

I had the pleasure of attending the OCPS All-County Elementary Music concert last Thursday evening. You know we have talent here at Palm Lake. Now, combine our students with the students across the county who auditioned for this honor and you have one spectacular evening of music. Congratulations to Catherine Brown, Hailey Kraemer, Abeo Maile, Geniah Paulwell, and Abigail West for representing Palm Lake in this prestigious event.

Friday was a busy day indeed as our students were address by the OCPS Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Dr. Brown-Cannon, during our Family Friday Black History event. Dr. Brown-Cannon talked about the need for resiliency and hard work to make your dreams come true. Thank you, Dr. Brown-Cannon, for your inspiring words. We had several teachers recognized at this event as well for their contributions to the students and community of Palm Lake. Congratulations and thank you to Ms. Montgomery, Mrs. Outland, Mrs. Rivera, and Mrs. Rowley for the indelible impact you all have made on the lives of our students, families, and our community.

Friday evening, our fantastic PTA presented the Bubble Ball featuring the Bubble Bus, cake, dancing and family fun. Thank you to all who came and especially to our dance committee for all of their planning and hard work to make this evening a success.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another great week ahead.

I wish you well,

Jim
