Deerwood Elementary School-OCPS

'Twas the night before school, when all through Deerwood, excitement was building just as it should. Backpacks were packed and outfits laid out, while families and Eagles buzzed all about.

The pencils were sharpened, supplies tucked away, in hopes of a wonderful first school day. Some students were eager, some nervous it's true, but our Deerwood staff can't wait to welcome all of you!

New friendships, new lessons, and memories to make, new goals to accomplish with each step we take. Our teachers are ready, our classrooms are bright, prepared to help every Eagle SOAR to new heights.

So get a good night's sleep and rest your head, tomorrow's adventure begins when you leave your bed. We'll greet you with smiles as the new year takes flight...

Happy First Day, Deerwood Eagles! We'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning (doors open at 8:15, class begins at 8:45)!

Eagles! This is our LAST welcome post to our newest Eagles!

Everyone, please welcome Ms. Zwetschkenbaum (Ms. Z) to our Deerwood nest! She is excited to teach our 2nd graders all the fun things, guiding them through this next year of their educational quest!

We are aiming to streamline our school events calendar. While August looks a little quiet, Meet the Teacher (8/6) and the first day of school (8/11) are HUGE events!

Moving forward, we hope to get this out to families by the 15th of the previous month so everyone has time to plan ahead. Thank you to Deerwood Elementary PTA for helping organize these calendars!

The first batch of our Saddle Up & Soar (26-27 Deerwood theme) postcards is officially on its way!

Mr. Charlton dropped them off at the post office today, and each one includes a personal note written by your child’s teacher!

Our final batch will be mailed on Monday, so keep an eye on your mailbox—and don’t forget to join us for Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 6, from 4:00–6:00pm. We can’t wait to welcome our Eagles back for an amazing year!

Mrs. Hawthorne has been a veteran Eagle in the nest for a while, supporting reading interventions across our campus - BUT NOW - she is a CLASSROOM teacher!

She joins our wonderful 4th grade team and is excited to teach Math & Science!

We have introduced so many new faces, but we are alllllmost done! Today we share another ESE resource teacher, Ms. Klem!

She is joining us from Waterford Elementary and comes with a WEALTH of knowledge in working with students who have unique and special needs.

With welcoming wings, we invite Ms. Kerr to bring her 5th grade math skills to Deerwood! She joins us from Chickasaw Elementary and we are so excited to have her!

Ms. Compton is joining the Deerwood team as an experienced 1st grade teacher from Chickasaw Elementary.

She is ready to help teach our Eagles to SOAR and READ!
