Mason Miles is a U.S. Army veteran who spent six years in the Army, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He successfully shifted from military service to pursuing a degree in computer engineering, securing a role with Lockheed Martin before graduation.

"Be There Without Being There: Humanoid Robot Immersive Telepresence" is the award-winning system that integrates a humanoid robot and a remote immersive environment, creating an experience that gives a person the ability to interact as the robot in its location. Just incredible!

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Chinwendu Enyioha on earning an NSF CAREER award, one of the top honors for early-career faculty, for his work on advancing communications for autonomous systems! ✨

His CAREER project, “Limited-Communication Control of Teams of Autonomous Systems” focuses on developing mathematical frameworks and distributed algorithms that allow teams of autonomous systems to coordinate effectively under bandwidth-limited communication constraints.

Congratulations to our researchers for their work, “Self-assembled-monolayer Hafnium Interfaces for Enhanced Longevity and Durability” or SHIELD, which was awarded a $1 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Principal investigator Piotr Kulik and co-investigators Jaesung Lee and Reza Abdolvand are collaborating with UCF alum-led electronics company Mtron to improve the longevity and durability of vibratory sensors used in everything from smart phones to autonomous vehicles.

NEW for Fall 2026: Our new graduate certificate in verification, validation and test, the first of its kind in Florida, prepares industry professionals to fill a skills gap that is in high demand nationally.

“Our industry partners gave us feedback that it was hard to find students who are skilled in this area,” says Associate Professor Mike Borowczak, the coordinator of the graduate certificate program. “It’s one of those cases where we listened to industry and now it’s producing results.”
