Sports Update: Soccer Vs. Freedom, Wed Sep 2 (and Mon Aug 31)

The HCMS soccer teams began their three game homestand with big wins versus their rival from up the road at Freedom MS. Coach Shatoya Coogle guided her teams to consecutive 1-0 wins, first by the Lady Eagles, followed by the HCMS boys.

8th grader Ava Solivan scored the lone goal of the game in the first half, while the entire team kept the pressure on and the ball in the Lady Panther’s end of the field. Clara Palomino played solid defense for HCMS in the win.

The HCMS boys also beat the Panthers by a single goal, hanging on in the second half for the victory. 7th grader Daniel Laniado scored in the first half off a set play free kick from Samuel Jimenez (8th grade). Dani came in from the right side and punched it in to give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.

On Monday afternoon, HCMS travelled to Luminary MS. Unfortunately, the Wolves’ teams proved to be too tough and HCMS dropped the girls game 4-0, and the boys game 3-1. 6th grader Matheus Fernandes scored the Eagles goal.

The Lady Eagles record stands at 1-2, while the HCMS boys record is 1-1. Next week, HCMS boys play a rescheduled boys game at Innovation MS on Tue Sep 8, and both teams play Meadow Woods at home on Wed Sep 9.

Go Eagles!

💕 This Friday: Pink & Pages for Dolly 📖

Like so many around the world, we’re heartbroken by the loss of Dolly Parton — a music icon who also helped generations of children discover a love of reading.

Dolly understood what we see in our classrooms every day: reading can open doors, spark imaginations and change lives. That’s why this Friday, Aug. 28, we’re turning OCPS PINK in her honor!

Students, teachers, staff, families and our community are invited to wear pink and spend at least 10 minutes reading.

Through her Imagination Library, Dolly helped put more than 300 million books into the hands of children around the world, including right here in Orange County.

So grab something pink, pick up a book and turn a few pages for Dolly. And be sure to DM us your Pink & Pages pics tomorrow!
