Sun for You and Me at CPE-Ocps This is the official page for the Sun For You and Me and many other clubs Club at Sally Ride Elementary School in Orlando, FL.

This page describes the work done by students, community, and teachers at Cypress Park Elementary School. This is a small Title 1 school in a low income area of Orlando, Florida. The population at our school is mostly composed of brilliant students that have no previous scientist experiences, and few or none academic family support. Due to its characteristics is a challenge for us as teachers to get our students to develop skills that are necessary in the learning process. Our students need to improve their social and academic habits, incorporate routines and procedures, develop teamwork, fall in love with their studies and be motivated to achieve personal and collective goals within their group. This initiative started with a very successful program on November, 2013. Our goal is to attract our students’ attention and curiosity, proper of their age, to improve their in-out classroom performance. Sun for you and me, has as main goal to introduce students since early age in the wonderful world of sciences. It tries to develop knowledge about our planet and its energy sources, emphasizing renewable sources. Renewable energy is energy not only of the future, but also of the PRESENT. To ensure the life of our planet within a few years we should teach how to take care of it to whom shall live and take important decisions in those days. This program starts with basic knowledge of our planet, its position in the Solar System, the convenient geographical location of our community, state and country in general. We teach basic concepts and principles of the solar energy through practical-meaningful examples and everyday usage. With this program we awaken our students' curiosity and develop skills like building with their own hands solar equipment, make inferences, create statistics, make measurements and of course teamwork among others.
