🏀 PAL Basketball is coming to Southwest!

In partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, PAL Basketball will be offered at Southwest for students in grades 6–8! The program will run Wednesday mornings from 8:00–9:00 AM, beginning August 26, and costs just $7 for the season.

🎉 Congratulations to Southwest Middle School’s 2026–27 Teacher and Support Person of the Year!

🍎 Teacher of the Year – Ms. Scudlo
A dedicated Sea Lion for 9 years, Ms. Scudlo brings her passion for Language Arts to life through engaging lessons that get students excited to learn. From developing our Creative Writing class to sponsoring National Junior Honor Society, she continues to inspire students through scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. And according to her students—she may just be the best dressed teacher at Southwest!

⭐ Support Person of the Year – Ms. Matzner
For 11 years, Ms. Matzner has been a welcoming face of our Sea Lion family. Her creativity and organization keep our front office running smoothly while making students and families feel at home. From supporting attendance and organizing our clothes closet to coaching the SWMS track team, she is always finding ways to support our students. And if you’ve visited our front office, you probably know THE Jen Matzner!

📣 Before & After School Opportunities at Southwest!

We’re excited to partner with the YMCA to offer programs for our Sea Lions before and after school! 🦭

🌅 Before School: Begins at 7:00 AM

🌟 After School: Runs after school until 6:00 PM and is FREE!

Both programs begin Tuesday, August 11. Check out the flyers for details and scan the QR codes to register!
