During these last six weeks, many of us spent time in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, which are the pillars of the Lenten season. We were preparing ourselves for the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday morning. Many beautiful services around the world celebrated this great event.

As I reflected during sunrise Mass at my parish, St. Mary Magdalen, many things came to mind as the sun rose behind the altar perfectly positioned. I remembered the many Easter Sundays when I was a young altar server and hardly understood the “real” meaning of this day. I thought of my family, my friends, and the many classmates with whom I have come in contact not just when I was a student at Bishop Moore, but the many more from the over 25 reunion events that I have had the honor of attending since 2021. I remembered the teachers who worked so hard to shape our young minds. Some of us absorbed the message at that time. Some may be when you started a family or celebrated a milestone accomplishment, and some from a tragedy in life. If you are like me, it took a while before being able to grasp what Jesus Christ endured for us. In addition, if you are like me, you know this understanding came from a friend, a teacher, or a coach who influenced your life. I know this to be true because of the shared feelings and comments I have heard at the alumni events I have attended.

As we now move forward to the 50 days of the Easter season, let us reflect on our many blessings. Let us remember and pray for our classmates who have passed. Let us reflect on how we can use our resources to ensure the future of Bishop Moore Catholic. Friday, April 5, 2024, is the annual Day of Giving known here at BMC as “The Big Give”.

Last year, the Big Give had 159 donations. The dollar goal for this year is $70,000. With 70 classes of alumni, I am sure that alumni alone can surpass 159 donations! I know we can get more than three donors per class. So please join me, and all alumni in donating to this 70th anniversary of Bishop Moore! What class and what decade will have the most donations? Check out the videos on the website and the live updates this Friday during the Day of Giving.

Class of 1966 enjoys lunch in the Moore Center -- always great to have our Hornets return home!

Did you know that when Bishop Moore Catholic was formed in 1954, two options were considered for the mascot? One was the Hornet and the other was the Mustang. We could have been the Moore Mustangs! Thank goodness, the Hornet prevailed.

One thing that has eluded our faithful mascot is a name. Over the years, our Hornet has unofficially been called Buzz or Harry but now it is time to select a name chosen by you, our Hornet Nation.

"To the Heights" podcast Episode #2 is out!

BMC Head Football Coach Matt Hedrick and Director of Mission Effectiveness JP Kuhlman discuss what in life brings us joy. It is not material wealth or even our accomplishments. What brings us joy is loving and serving others as Jesus did. It is in the simple things we do for others every day, not necessarily heroic measures.

On the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Poor, Mother Adela received two pre-postulants into the postulancy stage of formation.

In response to entering postulancy into the community of the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Mia Jimenez '23 shared this prayer:

Let our blessed mother guide you in all paths and directions that she desires to take you. As you allow her to hold your hand she will always lead you to Jesus and give you the grace to respond as we did in our Fiat today.

All through the heart of Jesus through the heart of Mary

Allan Gutcher, son of Clarisse Hellwig Gutcher, a member of the first graduating class in 1955, visited the BMC campus to donate his mother's 1955 BMC yearbook, as well as her '52, '53, and '54 St James yearbooks. He also donated several directories that she received over the years. What a great way to kick off our 70th-year celebration, having a relative from the 1st graduating class.

Bishop Moore Catholic Alumni took part in the first annual 2-person scramble on January 6, 2024. Although the weather did not cooperate, 110 of 111 registered alumni showed up and began to play with rain coming down -- either crazy or avid golfers or both. There were alumni from all the decades -- 12 from the '60s, 17 from the '70s, 7 from the '80s, 15, from the '90s, 26 from the 2000s, and 33 from the 2010s -- lots of fun, memories shared at lunch in the Moore Center afterward. A little rain cannot stop the Hornets! If you missed it, look for information for next year!
