The deadline to apply to an OCPS Magnet School is Monday, Feb. 15, 2021. You can learn about the magnet programs offered in OCPS elementary, middle and high schools via our virtual Magnet Fair! Magnet schools encourage academic excellence in highly specialized areas of study and often pave a road into programs in post-secondary schools and colleges. Students must apply for the magnet program at www.schoolchoice.ocps.net. If there are more applicants than the number of seats available in a specific program, students are selected through a lottery. The application window opened Nov. 1, 2020 and closes Feb. 15, 2021.

Students who currently reside in Orange County and who are entering a grade from kindergarten through 10th in the 2021-22 school year may apply for a magnet program seat. Students applying for kindergarten programs must be 5 years old before Sept. 1.

Southwest Singers 2018 will be featured in the 9-10am slot. Southwest Singers 2019 will be featured in the 6-7am slot. :)

Parents-

OCPS to provide virtual learning to all students from Aug. 10-20th

As the start of school approaches, we have continued to look for solutions that will accommodate parent, student and teacher needs. It remains challenging, and as promised, plans continue to be fluid. Consultation with the Florida Department of Education has been ongoing, and we have a new development.

This morning, we were approved to designate Distance Learning Days from August 10-20 (nine days) where all students registered for face-to-face or LaunchEd@Home will be on the LaunchEd platform from home. These will be instructional days that include many of the typical exercises at the beginning of a school year and standard instructional time.

The nine days will provide opportunities for all staff and students to become comfortable with the LaunchEd platform, as it will be our default should we need to pivot from face-to-face during the pandemic. Teachers can also establish communications with parents and students as we work out any problems and answer questions. We believe it is a win/win for families, students and staff.

This adjustment means:
1. The original approved school calendar is in place, with students starting virtually on August 10th. Teacher preplanning will begin July 31st as previously scheduled.
2. This adjustment does not require the shifting of planning days or adding instructional minutes to the day as some districts have creatively agreed upon.
3. August 21st will still be the first day that students in the face-to-face model report to their campus, having already completed the nine days virtually. This date was included in our Optional Innovative Reopening Plan.
4. OCVS students will start school on August 10th but are otherwise not impacted.
5. There will be no delay or adjustments to employee compensation, since the payroll calendars will be unaltered.

Schools will be communicating with families in need of devices and hotspots. Additional information will be provided to teachers regarding preplanning training and activities. Again, plans remain fluid so your understanding is appreciated.

The Fine Arts Festival may have been sidelined but our auction will still go on! Please help our students, teachers, and PTSA by bidding! Auction opens tomorrow at 8 AM.
