Cheney Families — we want your input!

We are beginning to plan a parent workshop focused on helping families better understand what they need to know to help their child be successful at Cheney.

Before we plan the event, we want to hear directly from you. We created a short survey to find out which topics would be most helpful to our families, including academic progress, school systems, student supports, school procedures, and ways to help your child at home.

Your feedback will help shape the workshop so that it is practical, relevant, and focused on what our families actually want and need.

🎉 Cheney Elementary Earns a B and Continues to Grow! 🎉

We are proud to share that Cheney Elementary earned a B again this year, and our school increased from 435 points to 450 points!

Our students made strong progress in reading, including an increase in 3rd grade reading from 52% to 61% and overall grades 3–5 reading from 49% to 55%.

We are also celebrating a strong science score of 62%, which reflects our students’ hard work with reading, vocabulary, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

A school grade is only one part of our story, but this progress shows that Cheney is moving in the right direction. We are so proud of our students, teachers, staff, and families for the work, support, and partnership that made this possible.

Exciting things are happening at Cheney! ⚾🥎

Orange County Public Schools is launching its first Baseball and Softball Microschool at Cheney Elementary in August 2026. This tuition-free program will serve approximately 48 students in grades 3–6 and is designed for students who are interested in growing both academically and athletically.

Students will receive grade-level academic instruction while also participating in structured baseball or softball training led by experienced coaches.

Update on the OCPS Baseball and Softball Microschool ⚾🥎

For families interested in learning more about the new OCPS Baseball and Softball Microschool planned for Cheney Elementary, OCPS will be holding two virtual parent information sessions on Tuesday, May 26.

The same information will be shared during both sessions, so families only need to attend one.

Yesterday was a busy and meaningful day at Cheney Elementary.

We celebrated our Pre-K and Kindergarten students during their end-of-year program, recognized our fifth grade students at their awards ceremony, and provided a Chick-fil-A lunch for students in grades 2–5 who met their FAST academic goals.

We are proud of our students for their hard work and growth this year, and we appreciate our staff and families for supporting them along the way.
