The drummer should not just listen to the notes. She should hear the wind in the trees, the call of the falcon in the distance, the rush of fabric on the dancer. The drummer should tune in to all the rhythms great and small shaping the atmosphere around her. Then her playing tickles the spaces between and create connections unseen.
