Phonics is the study of the relationship between the letters and the individual sounds that letters make. Reading begins by connecting letters with their sounds. During the Pre-school and Kindergarten years, your child will be learning how to put letters and sounds together to create words. The earlier your child is exposed to making relationships between letters and sounds, the easier this process will be. Below is a link to one of many activities you can use at home to reinforce basic reading skills your child is learning at school. In this activity your child will be learning, with your guided practice, how to make the connection between letters and their sounds. Saying the name of the picture and emphasizing the beginning sound, will help your child remember the connection.
