The FLVS Foundation was proud to support this year’s Teacher Appreciation Breakfasts, creating meaningful opportunities for our incredible educators to connect, celebrate, and feel valued 💙
🍎 Alina Dean, Drivers Ed Instructor: “The Teacher Appreciation Breakfast was a truly pleasant experience, and I loved having the chance to connect and share meaningful moments with other teachers in such a welcoming atmosphere. It was a thoughtful event that made us feel genuinely valued.”
💻 Shannah Cancel, Technology Instructor: “I always love to attend the county meet ups whenever possible, especially teacher appreciation week. It is a chance to interact with colleagues face-to-face who live right in the same community, possibly different departments and different subjects. These events really help to build community in an online enrollment environment.”
🎓 Jason Schultz, Senior Director of Instruction: “We have such an incredible team of teachers at FLVS and we are so appreciative of all their efforts to help our students be successful! During teacher appreciation week we have a series of activities and messages to make the week special, but in my opinion the regional teacher breakfasts on Friday are the best part of the week. Being virtual, we don’t get many opportunities to see our teachers and staff face to face, so taking the time to meet together in person to express our gratitude is so important, and we are so thankful for the Foundation’s support of these events.”
We’re honored to help bring educators together and support moments that strengthen connection and community across FLVS.

FLVS Foundation is excited to share a power story that captures the impact of student voice and the strength of our village, following our “Artful Expressions: A Universe of Possibilities” showcase from the Orlando Science Center to a global stage at the iconic Piccadilly Lights in London and beyond. With the support of partners and leaders like Astronaut Nicole Stott, our students’ creativity is reaching across the ocean and even into space, reminding us what’s possible when we invest in their voices and give them platforms to shine.
We’re also incredibly grateful to the organizations helping make this possible and continuing to champion student voices on a global scale:

🎨 Creativity in Action at Art Daze!
The FLVS Foundation was proud to support the third Art Daze event on April 10 at Florida Virtual School, hosted by Michaele Ann Elliott, Katie Smith, and Megan Rincon. Students came together for a hands-on art experience filled with creativity, collaboration, and inspiration.
Mrs. Elliott was joined by Foundation junior counselors Kennedy Reed, Sylar Borden, and Aiden Cardoza, helping make the day even more special. One student shared she was so excited about her project that she “could not wait to go home and make more,” a wonderful reflection of the joy Art Daze continues to spark. ✨
A special thank you to Foundation Board Vice President Monica Gardoni for volunteering her time and supporting this meaningful student experience. We love creating opportunities where students can connect, create, and be inspired!

🎉 Grant Spotlight: Bringing Biology to Life Through Gamified Learning
Thanks to the FLVS Foundation’s Grants for Great Ideas program, teacher Hayley Sirois was able to introduce the Premier version of Blooket into her Biology live lessons, transforming review sessions into exciting, interactive experiences for students.
Through game-based learning, students reviewed key Biology concepts, vocabulary, and lab questions while competing with classmates, earning points, and receiving immediate feedback. What might normally feel like a traditional review session quickly became a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
The impact? Students are more excited to join live lessons and actively participate.
💬 “I actually look forward to the live lessons now—Blooket makes it feel like a game instead of a class.”
💬 “I like competing with my classmates—it makes me want to pay attention and try harder.”
💬 “The games make studying for the Biology EOC way less stressful.”
Grants for Great Ideas help FLVS teachers bring innovative tools and creative learning strategies directly to their students, making education more engaging, interactive, and impactful.
The Foundation thanks the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations for their matching grant program that helps make opportunities like this possible.

We wrapped up an incredible week of STEM Camp at STARBASE last week! 🚀 Our 4th and 5th grade students dove into hands-on learning, collaboration, and discovery—and we couldn’t be more proud of their curiosity and enthusiasm.
A special highlight of the week was welcoming Commander Joe Lyles as our guest speaker, who inspired students with his experiences and insights.
This camp would not have been possible without the dedication of our amazing volunteers—thank you for investing your time and energy into making this experience so impactful. We’re also grateful to Lindsay Spalding at STARBASE for her support, and to the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations for their matching grant program that helps make opportunities like this possible.
Here’s to a week full of learning, inspiration, and future innovators in the making! 💡✨
