Edgewood Children's Ranch Since 1966, Edgewood's mission is to to help children live purposeful and transformed lives.

History of Edgewood Children's Ranch

In 1966 Juvenile Court Judge D. Arthur Yergey saw a need for a residential facility for young boys who had exhibited negative social behavior due to family circumstances. This led Judge Yergey to John W. “Jack” Lynd, who subsequently opened Edgewood Boys Ranch in Orlando, FL. Through prayer and loving care, boys were given a safe environment in which to change

the direction their life was headed. In 1968, a generous donation of 110 acres was given by “Aunt” Minnie Rouse to be the permanent site for the Ranch. In following years, the Ranch added girls to its program and is now called the Edgewood Children’s Ranch. Through this residential program for boys and girls ages 6-17, the Ranch today is able to accommodate more than 70 students at a time. Yet the methods and goals are the same as in 1966-love and prayer, bringing about changed hearts and lives.

Some of the biggest moments at Edgewood don't look like much from the outside.

A volunteer showing up on a Saturday. A staff member teaching a skill, one patient rep at a time. A few minutes of encouragement that a Rancher remembers long after the day is over.

We don't say it enough: thank you. To every volunteer and staff who shows up for our children, week after week, you are part of this story too.

Cottage Life is where a lot of the quiet, everyday growth happens here: chores, mealtimes, evening wind-down, and the kind of consistency a lot of our Ranchers haven't had before.

Morning assembly. Class. A little friendly competition over Uno at lunch. Time to be a kid. Family time back at the cottage. It's ordinary, and that's exactly the point; structure and routine are part of how healing happens here.

At Edgewood Ranch Academy, small classrooms and low student-to-teacher ratios mean a Rancher who's struggled in school before finally gets to move at their own pace, and actually catch up.
It's not flashy. It's just steady, patient work; and it changes everything.
