Words from Elizabeth Williams-Riley: It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my dear friend and classmate, Ronald “DJ Ronnie Ron” Smith, who transitioned on April 6, 2026, following a heart attack. This information has been confirmed by his brother-in-law, David.

Ron was a light you didn’t have to search for—you felt him the moment he entered the room. A bold man of faith, a devoted husband, a loving son and brother, a gifted teacher, and a friend who made life feel lighter just by being in it. He carried the Gospel not only in word, but in spirit—through music, laughter, and the way he showed up for people. Whether behind the mic as an award-winning gospel DJ or simply cracking jokes with classmates, Ronnie created connections everywhere he went.

He had a way of making you laugh when you didn’t even realize you needed it. And somehow, in the middle of the laughter, he would remind you of something deeper—something eternal. Oak Ridge High School Pioneers Class of 1991 Reunion Page

While our hearts ache in his absence, we can almost hear him now—reminding us not to stay too long in sorrow. Ron would want us to smile, to laugh, to love harder, and to keep the faith he so boldly lived out loud.

Please keep his beloved wife, Saundra Smith, and their families lifted in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. More details will be shared as they become available.
