We are excited to have double the interest this year in creating and designing not just one Rain Barrel for Orange County Utilities, but TWO Rain Barrels! As well as SIX beautifully rendered 2D Artworks supporting the water conservation cause! Please wish our Art Students good luck in this competition! We will know results of this competition during the Spring Semester.

Pictured are several students decorating and creating their gorgeous Rain Barrels!

Dear families,

We are thrilled to announce an exciting change in our approach to family-school engagement! On November 13, 2023 we transitioned from all messaging platforms to TalkingPoints for our student messaging needs. To ensure the most secure and safe student messaging experience, only students 13 years of age or older will be invited to use TalkingPoints. Just like the family experience, students can select their preferred communication method as SMS text or the TalkingPoints for Families app.

We’re excited to consolidate all of our family-school engagement into one secure and streamlined place, making it easier for classrooms, schools and the district to stay connected to you and your students. Students can now receive school or district updates and message coaches, counselors or teachers directly through TalkingPoints.

We were selected by TalkingPoints to pilot this new feature and our district (including you!) will have an opportunity to provide meaningful feedback to help inform the product as it becomes available to the general public. We look forward to this exciting change and the enhanced collaboration it will bring to our community! Thank you for your flexibility and participation as we work together to provide more meaningful connections across our district.

Please have your student check their OCPS Gmail to accept the TalkingPoints invitation. Any questions? Please email [email protected]

CONGRATULATIONS TO student Luca B! Her work of art received first place in this year's Exhibit A: Family Court Art Challenge!

DPHS had 4 student artworks entered into the Student Art Challenge and Exhibition.

Luca B. 12th grade - Teacher: Mrs. Callaway
Ziya W. 10th grade - Teacher: Ms. Labarga
Zeyu W. 9th grade - Teacher: Ms. Labarga
Carla R. 10th grade - Teacher: Ms. Labarga

On the evening of November 2nd, students from Orange County Public Schools gathered amongst family and friends to receive recognition for their beautiful artwork. The theme of this year’s art show was “Someday I Will,” and students worked hard to artistically portray their hopes and dreams for the future. Over 200 art submissions were hung throughout the halls of the Juvenile Justice Center displaying the talent of students all the way from kindergarten through high school. Several Orange County teachers were also recognized for their hard work and for inspiring creativity in their students. We are proud of all the students who participated in this year’s art show, and we already can’t wait for next year! If you didn’t get the chance to attend the event last night, you can re-watch our live stream here: https://www.facebook.com/NinthCircuitFl/videos/745851310699841

Ms. Labarga’s Drawing 1 students showcased their drawing skills when they drew inspirational pieces for The Juvenile Justice Center’s Family Court Challenge Art Show. Her students were tasked with drawing pieces depicting a goal they wanted to achieve; these goals ranged from academic, career, family, and emotional.

Carla R. drew, “Someday I will help those in need that need help in their hardest times”
Zeyu W. drew “Someday I will be a free man”
Ziya W. drew “Someday I will overcome the fear and overwhelming feeling of stepping out of my mind bubble and come to recognize my emotions”
Mrs. Callaway's AP Art Student, Luca B, decided to use the art challenge theme to demonstrate her courage to share words of wisdom which will tie together with her sustained investigation of her AP Art Portfolio.

As a reminder, there will be no school for the week of November 20th-24th. We hope everyone in our Panther Family has a safe and enjoyable break! Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍗🦃

Over the past weekend, students participated in the 47th Annual Maitland Rotary Art Festival. There were tons of gorgeous pieces on display, and student Miguel U. received a Merit Award for his digital art piece. Congratulations to Miguel, and well done all students who submitted pieces!

The “Raw” showcase exhibits ceramic works from Mr. Silecechia’s ceramic classes. The works on display represent students from level 1 to AP 3D Design. Dr. Phillips's ceramics exhibition took an avant-garde departure from the tradition by showing works in an unglazed state. This was an effort to highlight the rich detail and effort the students put into their work.

Congratulations to our varsity football team on their 17-15 playoff round victory Friday night over Olympia! The Panthers will now travel this week to Plant High School (9-2) in Tampa for the region semifinal. Go Panthers!

CIS would like to extend a special thank you to Ambika and the IC team in charge of the event for putting this together and all the clubs and groups that attended. Students led by making flyers, preparing posters, running concessions, sharing Q & A, manning sign-in sheets, cleaning up, and so much more. Students really pulled together to make this a success.

We cannot forget the worst of humanity, but it was nice seeing the best of it.

Last year 95 people, 329 miles.
This year they had 121 popsicle sticks/people and 1,471 laps, totaling 367.75 miles.
Way to go CIS and DPHS!
Thank you to the teachers, admin, parents, and students for participating!
