Here is a bit of an interesting video. The brilliant freestyle rapper Harry Mack has a video of a spontaneous performance discussed by a neuroscientist. One of the main takeaways is something that we talk about in our instructor classes, is the willful suppression of the Inner Critic to help create Flow state. Of course, the Inner Critic is important for social regulation, but on countless occasions students beat themselves up over performance in scenarios or on the street, rather than utilize the learnable skill of suppressing the Inner Critic with positive self talk ... good quality practice is also essential, but so many over the years shun such practice because their Inner Critic tells them negative things, and NOBODY wants to look or feel stupid ... hey ... guess what ... confusion and frustration are an INTEGRAL part of the Learning Process.
