In college, one of my professors shared that it should be called "social science" as it is active versus the passive "social studies". In English class, you can be an author, a poet, or a writer. In Math class, you are a mathematician, in Science, you are a Scientist, a Chemist, a Physicist.

In Social Science class, you can be a Historian, a Geographer, a Psychologist, an Economist, an Archaeologist, an Anthropologist, etc. We do more than just study!
