Tips for students in nursing school now

> Work as a nursing assistant or cna (part time, per diem)- to get patient care experience and also to learn the grunt work (ADLs, transfers, feeding etc) , can also be a patient sitter too (helps in getting nursing exposure).

> Build up your resume- volunteer locations, certifications (cpr, bls etc), school info, work experience , introduction on why you should be hired- ask your school career center to help you also.

>NCLEX prep- Starting on day one of nursing school even if your school does not review nclex style questions take initiative on your own. Get a nursing app that has nclex prep on it. Buy a nclex study material like suanders. Uworld online has great nclex online- pay for a subscription. Start with 10 questions a day and work your way up. Go through the rationale behind why that answer was chosen. Note down the reasoning. Remember boards will ask you about a disease process that sticks out. Not common signs or symptoms. It is all about patient safety when it comes to being a nurse.

Problem #2 MD order nystatin 250,000 units for the patient bid for 5 days. The pharmacy dispenses 500,000/ 5ml. How much will you administer per dose in ml? Round answer to nearest tenth.

Problem #1: Levothyroxine 200 mcg has been ordered. The vial of levothyroxine states “reconstitute with 10 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride injection. Once reconstituted, the concentration of levothyroxine is 40 mcg/mL. How much ml as a nurse will you administer to the patient? Round answer to whole number.
