Today, Valencia honors the American lives lost in war. On this day of rest, we ask that you take a moment to reflect on the sacrifice made by so many in our nation's history. The college's regular hours will resume tomorrow.

We wish we didn't have to have this memorial at our School of Public Safety, but we cannot forget the members of the Valencia family who gave their life in service of the community we love. In memory of our fallen heroes.

And here in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott has declared a health emergency regarding Zika.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. At Valencia’s School of Public Safety, where we train about 200 recruits each year in one of the region’s most physically and academically demanding programs, our hearts are heavy as we remember officers who have died in the line of duty.
