Title: Humans Are Mentally Fragile
(it’s ok to not be ok)
Date: 2023 Size: Small
This piece is dedicated to mental awareness.
“There are moments in life for us all, for when a person can be hurting so deeply and feel so alone but still carry on basic functions as if to appear “okay or sane”.
This artwork is for all of us who carry invisible weight; the words honor tragedy and carries a universal meaning for the quiet suffering. The moments when someone like Lindsay Clancy, Holocaust survivors (enduring the worst of humanity), Anthony Bourdain, Brittney Spears or our fellow people that are not famous losing their mind —telling us they need(ed) help. The reaching out. The actions, moments and words when someone is telling us they are not okay and the impact of how we don’t understand how serious this can be when we lose compassion, communication, empathy, understanding and a national system not built for the unwell —but to fall in-between the cracks.
It is true, we have failed many people in times of need —even our heroes. And perhaps that is what my artwork conveys in this piece; asking us to remember: a fragile mind does not always look broken, a fragile mind may or may not want to be seen and a person can be falling long, long, long before they finally fall.”
