Kids nowadays feel so much pressure to be accomplished. People expect them to be the best student in class, to take AP and honor classes, to dual enroll and take high school and college classes at the same time. Then, as 20-year-olds, they must have a clear career path, be saving money for their future, at the same time, these young people must continue their (expensive) education, and get a masters, and maybe even a PHD, depending upon their field of choice. And let’s not forget about certificates, internships, specialization courses. Society expect them to be grown-ups, to save the oceans, and to stop climate change. All while having a “positive” attitude, because the world needs “better people”. And then, we all wonder, why mental health issues in young adults have increased 71% since 2008.
