Please join us in welcoming Elaine Martinez, who will be serving as the new Principal of our UCP Downtown Campus!

Elaine Martinez is an experienced educator who has served the children of Orange County, Florida, for over 31 years. Her career as an educator started as a Sunday school teacher when she was a teenager. While attending college to become an elementary school teacher, Ms. Martinez worked as an after-school care group leader, coordinator, and paraprofessional. After graduation, she served as an ESOL teacher, district resource teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, area administrator, and principal.

Throughout her career, Ms. Martinez has served students from diverse backgrounds with and without disabilities. Her fourteen years of experience as an elementary school principal along with her passion for making a difference in the lives of children, supporting learning for all students, developing the professional growth of all staff, and providing a family-centered, safe learning environment will be the cornerstones of our partnership.

Ms. Martinez has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in elementary education, a master鈥檚 degree in educational leadership, and is pursuing an educational doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in special education. In addition, she has an ESOL endorsement and earned a graduate certificate on Supporting High Needs Populations from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2019

UCP Downtown BETA has funded and created a new sensory room in our Elementary building for our students who may need a therapeutic space with a variety of equipment that provides students with special needs with personalized sensory input. Our Sensory room helps our children calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. Time in a sensory room helps children improve their visual, auditory and tactile processing, as well as fine and gross motor skills. By providing a sense of calm and comfort, sensory rooms help children learn to self-regulate their behaviors, which ultimately improves focus. Walls maintain sensory lights as well as positive affirmations for our children to remember that "they are capable," "Anything is possible," "Our future brightens each day."
