How do I know when God is calling me to do something?

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot lately. And as I sit with it, I find myself making a little list in my head—almost anxiously, but in the very best way. The kind of anticipation that comes when you feel God stirring something in your heart.

So, how do I recognize a calling from God?

1. First and foremost: Does it glorify Him?
God will never call us toward something that pulls us away from Him or contradicts who He is. This will always be the first “check” on my list. Before anything else, I want to ask: Will this point people toward Jesus? Will this honor Him?

2. There is a desire you simply cannot shake.
It may begin as a small thought, but it grows into a passion—a fire in your heart that keeps drawing you back. In today’s language, we might even call it an obsession. But there is something different about it. It feels purposeful.

3. The thought remains.
It doesn’t disappear when the excitement wears off. It continues to return to your heart and mind. You pray about it, set it aside, go about your day—and somehow, there it is again.

4. It requires faith—and often, sacrifice.
A calling doesn’t always come with a perfectly laid-out plan. Sometimes God asks us to move before we can see where the road leads. It may require our time, our comfort, our resources, or our courage. And yet, alongside that sacrifice comes a faith that is difficult to measure or explain.

And with all of that being said…

I believe God is calling me to write.

So, I’m starting something that has been growing in my heart:

A place where I can share thoughts, songs, testimonies, writings, lessons from motherhood, and the things God places on my heart.

I don’t know exactly what this will become.

But I know I’m supposed to begin.

And sometimes obedience isn’t knowing the entire plan—it’s simply having enough faith to take the first step.

So today, I’ll leave you with the same question I’ve been asking myself:

What is God calling you to do? 🤍
