Better writing begins with better reading 🤯🤯🤯

I’m going to let you in on the top 2 things that make writing essays stressful and time-consuming.

#1 - not having a clearly defined research question

—> When your research question is too big, or too general, you’ll find a way to make every article, essay and book seem relevant. When you narrow your question, you narrow your reading field. This makes it far less likely for you to end up wandering down research rabbit holes 🐇🎩

#2 - you read solely to learn what an author says

—> as long as you’re only reading to gather jnfo, you’re adding hours to your writing process. You will read fewer essays and articles when you learn how to dig into ideas and engage in conversations with authors. The acronym I shared in the video is a good way to start:

R - REFLECT on what you’ve read (read 15-20 mins then stop, close the text, and think about what you’ve read; write down questions you have; parts you didn’t understand, places you thought the author was going off track)

E - EVALUATE think about the author’s decisions and evaluate them. (Did he only use anecdotal examples? Did he refer to old or recent studies? What info would he need to add to convince you of his position?)

A - ASK QUESTIONS this is key! Everything in a text is done with intention - and it’s your job to ask the author about the choices she made. Questions lead to exploration - and exploration leads to new ideas and ways of seeing

D - DECIDE (FOR NOW!) so often, we think we need to have all possible answers and have considered every possible text before we commit to a position or making a claim. But, that’s not realistic. You need to make the most informed decision with the information you have. Then, if you come across a new piece of evidence that makes you question your original idea, you can reassess. Changing your mind is allowed 🙂

This kind of negotiation is called “negotiation impasse”, resulting in such situations as mutual suspicion, differences of opinion, heated arguments, which is more common in the fight for the interests of the competition. However, if these issues are not handled properly, the negotiating parties are unable to shorten the distance between them, which will directly hinder the negotiation work. This article mainly focuses on the reasons for the formation of deadlock, the principle of avoiding deadlock, and the methods and techniques of resolving deadlock.
