🌈 R is for Rainbow! 🌈
We had so much fun learning about the letter R with our rainbow craft! This activity may look simple, but it incorporated so many different areas of learning. 💛
Each kiddo got to create their own rainbow by choosing the colors they wanted to use. As they selected each piece, we worked on color recognition and vocabulary by finding and naming the different colors. We also talked about the letter R, practiced saying the /r/ sound, and connected the word rainbow back to our letter of the week. 🔤
The kiddos applied the glue to each colored strip, giving them another opportunity to practice hand-eye coordination and fine motor control. Once they added the glue, I helped by placing and gluing the strips down to create their rainbow. 🌈
Then came their favorite part—the clouds! ☁️ They grabbed cotton balls and used their little fingers to pull, pinch, tear, and stretch them apart before adding them to their rainbows. This was a great way to strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers that are important for fine motor development, pencil grip, writing, using scissors, and other everyday skills.
We also practiced:

✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Sensory exploration with the soft cotton
✨ Creativity and self-expression
✨ Patience and concentration
✨ Language development and new vocabulary
Once our rainbows were complete, we finished our activity by singing a rainbow song together, adding music, listening skills, repetition, and even more language development to our learning. 🎶🌈
So much learning packed into one colorful little craft! I love activities where the kiddos can create, explore, and learn through play while making something completely their own. 💕
