on & Martyr. Currently, 500 students are enrolled from preschool through grade 8. We believe that the focus of the Cardinal Bernardin School experience is to motivate students to learn and achieve their own personal best. Our goal is to prepare students to be lifelong learners, as well as responsible members of their community, able to interact with people of all races, nationalities, and religions as they go out into the world.

At CJB, students earn GEM Cards for "Going the Extra Mile" as they demonstrate our pillars of faith, service, and academics. Each week, one winner is drawn from each of our K–2, 3–5, and 6–8 grade groups and recognized during our morning broadcast.

As our Cardinals continue writing their stories this school year, we’re proud to celebrate the choices that strengthen their roots and give them wings to grow. 🌱🪽

🌎 Caring for Our Common Home 🌿

This week’s All-School Mass invited our CJB community to reflect on the Care of Creation and the responsibility we share to cherish and protect the world God has entrusted to us.

We were grateful to welcome Fr. Tirso Villaverde, Pastor of St. Julie Parish, as our presider, with Mrs. Murphy’s class serving as our Mass hosts. We also welcomed a special guest at the altar, seminarian Payton, who joined our altar servers before continuing his studies at Mundelein.

As 'Laudato Si’ reminds us, care for creation is an essential part of living our faith. May the grace we received at Mass inspire us to turn gratitude into action—caring for one another and for our common home. 💚🏡

From Roots to Wings 🌱🪽

On August 29, 2000, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School opened its doors for the very first time.

Led by our first principal, Judy Schutter, that first CJB community planted the roots of something very special. Twenty-six years later, those roots continue to grow—and we’re especially blessed to still have members of our staff who were here on that very first day!

As we begin another chapter in CJB history, this year’s theme feels especially meaningful:

“Roots to Wings: Rooted in God so we can soar His love.”

For 26 years, generations of Cardinals have grown from the roots planted here—grounded in faith, strengthened by community, and given the wings to soar. 💚

During a special Mass, our faculty and staff gathered around our new Principal, Mrs. Nora Zerante, offering a beautiful prayer of blessing as she begins this new chapter of leadership at CJB.

Together, we asked the Holy Spirit to guide her with wisdom, strengthen her with courage, and fill her with peace as she leads our students, faculty, staff, and families.
