One of the most common things I hear from partners is:
“I’m not too worried. She has a really high pain tolerance.”
And every time I think…
Respectfully?
It’s actually your pain tolerance I’m thinking about 👀
Not your ability to feel labor.
Your ability to tolerate watching someone you love move through intensity without panicking, shutting down, fixing, spiraling, or accidentally making the room feel less safe.
Because birth gets REAL.
And when it does, the nervous system of the support people in the room matters too.
I’ve watched birthing people stay deeply grounded through intense labor… while their partner completely unravels beside them because no one prepared them for what they were about to witness.
This is why birth prep matters.
Not just a birth plan.
Not just knowing when to go to the hospital.
Actual preparation.
Understanding what labor looks like.
How to respond to intensity.
What support feels like in practice.
How to stay connected to each other when things get hard.
That’s what I teach inside my Birth Literacy course, Bootcamp Babymoon Couples Retreat, and what I support families through as a doula.
Because the goal isn’t a “perfect” birth.
It’s walking into birth feeling informed, connected, and supported when things get real.
