ODC is hosting the second of three pursuit races this Saturday, July 13th.

These races have a modified format to encourage the cruising population of Oriental to join them on the water. These races will begin with a pursuit start, in which slower boats start ahead of faster boats and winners are determined by the order of finish.

These particular races are a lot of fun as the staggered starts allow for a lot more “social” sailing less stress than the normal synchronous starts. There are also crew pool and race committee boat options if you would like to be on the water but do not want to bring your own boat. Consider joining your racing community on the water on July 13 and August 10. There will be a brief skippers meeting a 9:00 at the sailing school office at Sailcraft Marina to go over the format and calculate the starting off-set times.

Oriental Cup Reminder

This annual event is coming up this coming weekend October 14, 15 & 16 and we strongly encourage anyone with any interest in sailboat racing to register. The regatta includes races for all levels including a cruising class for casual racers.

In addition to the racing, there is a tremendous dinner at the Toucan at 6:00 on Saturday and a Bloody Mary breakfast on Sunday morning at 9:30. If you've ever races before, this would be a great opportunity meet fellow racers and share old stories with like minded individuals.

We anticipate perfect sailing conditions with temperatures in the mid 70s and winds out of the south east at around 10 knots. We can accept boat registrations up to Friday night but need a head count for the dinner by Wednesday at noon. if you want to attend the dinner please go to the dinner only registration page at

The Oriental Cup Regatta, Oct. 14-16
The 2022 Oriental Cup Regatta, a weekend of sailing and racing, good food and live music, is just around the corner, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 14-16. The fun begins Friday evening with registration and live music at the Tiki Bar at the Oriental Marina & Inn. The Regatta on Saturday includes Round the Buoys and Pursuit Races on the Neuse River, followed by a Regatta Dinner. Festivities conclude on Sunday with the NSA-sponsored Bloody Mary Breakfast.

The Oriental Cup Regatta is sponsored by the Nautical Co-op of Oriental (NCO).
