Is your child constantly moving in class? Falling off their chair? Labeled as distracted or naughty?

Lynn Brittnacher—former teacher of 25 years and now Executive Director at Brain Balance of Wisconsin—says it’s not always a behavior issue. It’s often a mismatch between expectations and development.

When a child’s brain is still in a movement-based phase, asking them to sit and focus for long stretches can feel impossible—not because they’re unwilling, but because they’re not ready yet.

🧠 Brain Balance helps strengthen the foundational brain functions that support focus, attention, and emotional regulation.

Parents, we know you don’t want to nag or micromanage. You want your child to notice what needs to be done and just do it. But when that doesn’t happen—when you ask three times and it’s still not done—it triggers something deeper: fear. In this clip, we chat with Laine Lipsky, Parenting Coach and Founder of Calm Heart Parenting, to unpack where that reaction really comes from. Be sure to follow for more brain-based parenting tools!

“Imagine a child being told to run a race — but in their lane, there are hurdles every few feet. While others sprint forward, they’re jumping obstacle after obstacle.”

That’s how Isaac Johnson from Brain Balance, Tulsa + OKC, describes what many children with behavioral or learning challenges experience every day.

By the end of the day, they’re not misbehaving — they’re exhausted. And without the right support, the struggle continues. But it doesn’t have to.

At Brain Balance, we help identify which brain systems need more support and begin filling in the gaps — so kids can move through life with more ease and connection.
