The Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU's first Distinguished Visiting Scholar, 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗣. 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻, who just completed his stint at UVU, was nominated by President Donald J. Trump and sworn in today as the 12th 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 in a ceremony in Washington, DC.

"While the Constitution clearly assigns some matters to the federal government, like national defense or interstate commerce, the bulk of the decisions that affect day-to-day life . . . are to be made by the states. This means that the decisions with the most direct impact will be made by government representatives closest to the people affected."

So wrote panelist 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗮𝗻, of the Sutherland Institute, about the national federalism summit held last week in Salt Lake City, co-sponsored by the Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU and attended by representatives from 23 U.S. states.

On this who's-who Wednesday, meet 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵, an administrative assistant for the 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲.

From Alpine, Utah, Alli has a degree in elementary education from UVU and taught in the public schools.

She later worked in the nonprofit sector before coming to the Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU.

"How could you write a book that says 'The Complete History of the American Revolution' and not have the word 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 in the index? It's absurd!" said guest Carol Berkin in Season 4, Episode 8 of 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

"You're giving more than half the country an ability to see themselves in the American Revolution and to feel like they are part of it," responded host Savannah Eccles Johnston.

Eighteen UVU students graduated with a 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗟𝗮𝘄 in a ceremony Aug. 14.

Family, friends, and faculty in attendance saw the second-ever cohort of the Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU's program receive their hoods and celebrate their achievement.

The Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU’s 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗘𝗰𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 and 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗸𝗲 recently attended the two-week The Jack Miller Center Summer Institute for young faculty in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Seminars were facilitated by top academics in political science and history and provided instruction for 23 rising scholars who were selected for their commitment to teaching the ideas and documents of the American political tradition.

A Monticello resident, Boyle received a masterclass in civic virtue from firefighters who protected her town during the recent Babylon Fire in San Juan County.

"I watched with emotion as men and women daily drove down our mountain with dirt, ash, smoke and fatigue etched into their faces. The scene reminded me of what truly makes our nation great."

The American Revolution wasn't fought only on battlefields. It unfolded in homes, farms, towns, and military camps, where women faced shortages, violence, displacement, and the enormous responsibility of keeping families and communities alive.
