1. Why did you choose to teach Humanities?

I’m passionate about the content and helping students. I believe an understanding of history, the arts, and culture helps us to make sense of the world and our place in it. I started teaching as a graduate student and had so much fun in the classroom I decided to pursue a career in higher education. I can’t imagine doing anything else!

2. What are your biggest achievements with a humanities degree?

A BA in Humanities prepared me for graduate school where I had opportunities to work with amazing mentors, travel, present at conferences, and find a fulfilling career that I love.

3. Why do you think more students should choose Humanities as their degree?

The skills that are developed in the Humanities program are inherently valuable—no matter what career students choose to pursue. Humanities is an interdisciplinary program that trains students to think carefully about various issues, interpret information (whether written or visual), and articulate complex ideas. We prepare our students to overcome obstacles—to be flexible, adaptable, and confident in their abilities to problem solve.

4. What career do you think a humanities degree would be compatible with?

There are so many career options for Humanities majors! Our program is great preparation for grad school (including law school) and careers in education, curation (museums/libraries), business, government, and civil or foreign service.

5. What is ONE fun fact about UVU Humanities?

We have amazing faculty with expertise in a variety of fields, including theatre, Chinese architecture, Victorian literature, and Latin American studies.

The department lets students choose an emphasis based on their interests and career goals.
