Well I promised you another inspiring interview with a warm, friendly Brazilian learner of English and Israel Michelisa is going to deliver.
When I met Israel, he was well on his way towards success. He was meticulous in his efforts to learn. His handwriting stands out in my memory as being one of the tidiest I encountered in 15 years of teaching. I can still picture it in my mind. If he ever needs to change from his chosen path of data science, he may consider helping people handwrite the important messages of their lives.
I think one of the other reasons Israel stood out is that, his life reminded me of where I was at when I first started teaching. Young, newly married, starting his family. Important steps that require balance in all of your efforts. Sometimes others may describe these things as distractions or even obstacles to success, but they really seemed to guide and even focus Israel's journey. He treated these other aspects as reasons to learn instead of excuses.
Fitting learning into all of the other parts of his life then has meant that even now, it's natural to keep setting and reaching towards goals. He's made learning a part of living which means his achievement will be as long and vibrant as his life. In short, he's going places!

Friday is Friend Day at ESL: Very Well. What could be better than a conversation with a talented Brazilian ESL student? How about conversations with TWO talented Brazilian ESL students!
You're welcome.
I have had so many great students from Brazil. Even more than I love the brigadeiros that would usually make an appearance at some point in the semester, I loved that my Brazilian students seemed to meld all the different backgrounds and cultures of the classroom together.
Erika Stephens was definitely a melder. She was proficient, positive, eager to learn and achieve. She was and she is. She's continued her English learning through her teaching the Portuguese language and culture at different universities in the US. You'll find her graceful and impressive. Enjoy and show your appreciation in the comments!

The last 4 years have changed every system but the education system perhaps most of all. Today we introduced the topic: What does the increase in learning online mean for the future of going to school?
Thoughts? Put those thoughts to speech. It's like squats for your language proficiency.
