A river carries life-giving water to everything within its reach.

It cleanses.

It cools.

It smooths.

It hydrates.

It invigorates.

It enlivens.

In some places, it flows with an unassuming tranquility and beauty. Elsewhere it rages in thunderous magnificence and power.

Whether serene or tumultuous, everywhere it flows… it carves.

It etches its way through once unbroken surfaces exposing layers, textures, colors, and depths formerly concealed.

When observed without the context of its history, the expanding effect of its profound steadiness and patience is imperceptible. No one has ever sat and watched a canyon grow.

Yet the river continues on, engraving its way…

Moment by moment…

deeper and wider…

revealing anew the ever-present wonders previously hidden from view.

Christ offers US peace like a river. He gives us a disclaimer. His peace is different from the peace marketed by the world as “lack of struggle”.

The cleansing, the cooling, the smoothing…

The hydrating, the invigorating, the enlivening…

Once flat, the surface of the soul is broken by the unrelenting flow of the river.

The etching, the carving, the engraving…

The expanding, the opening, the deepening,

The exposing, the enlarging, the revealing…

THIS is the process… THIS is the relationship He invites us to enter into with HIM.

Grace by grace…

Deeper and wider…

The ever-steady, Living Water etches its way through the layers (some crustier than others😜 ) of the soul.

It reveals character, beauty, depth, and sanctity previously unrealized.

When observed without the context of its history, the expanding effect of Living Water’s steadiness and patience is almost imperceptible. Rarely has anyone sat and watched a soul expand.

Yet He continues on, engraving His way, smoothing the rough edges, hollowing out caverns, opening up sacred spaces, and expanding one’s capacity to RECEIVE.

God is working a masterpiece within you that has the potential to dwarf the Grand Canyon in majesty and beauty.

Yield to the enticings of Christ's Living Water.

Have confidence in the wisdom of His technique.

You are precious to Him.

You are engraven on the palms of His hands.

The only question that remains to be answered is…

Will you receive HIS engraving? …

Will you receive His image in YOUR countenance?

I have tasted of Christ’s “Peace Like A River” and it truly surpasses ALL understanding.

It is precious, wonderful, sacred, often painful, and at times brutal. It is worthwhile, and to me… a treasured experience and process that I hope to yield to eternally.

My Father wasn’t perfect, but pretty darn close! He’s a Hero to me in many ways!

Some people act differently depending on who is around. My father wasn’t this way. He was authentic, and honest about who he was.

I watched as he was kind to everyone! He freely gave of his time, and sometimes meager income, to help others, without being asked. He saw a need and tried to fulfill it the best he could.

He had high morals/values and character, and taught us through his actions. He also allowed us freedom of choice, even if it meant he might take on some of the fallout because of our choices. I’m grateful for this. We learned about free agency and how it could bring about good or poor consequences.

He was a hard worker and taught his children how to work hard AND efficiently.

He was always open to us coming to him for help. I don’t remember him ever saying he didn’t have time or brushing us off. I knew I could always count on my Daddy!

I still have the shovel that Dad kept and never used. It was one of ten uses for the stake center groundbreaking on 12 th south.

I was going through a box the other day and found a few 3 x 5 cards I had written, when I was probably about 11 or 12 yrs old. I had been asked to give a Fathers Day talk about my Father. I don't know if I interjected any stories into this at the time, but I started the talk by saying, "My Dad is a Perfect 10." I'm sure a few sleeping in the pews peeked up theirs ears! 😄 I'm super grateful I had the time I did, with this wonderful man!

These were the bullet points;

1. He is a good listener!

2. He is a handy man- and loves to learn as well as teach how to fix things.

3. He is very unselfish- He often takes the leftovers or smaller pieces after he makes sure we have our fill. He rides his bicycle to school so our Mom can have the car during the day.

4. He loves us, and works at my Grandpas Ranch in the summer, to help his father, and to make extra money for our family. He said he missed tucking us in bed, especially the youngest Brooke, Bronze, and Dawn.

5. He teaches us dedication- He has been dedicated to regularly going to the Temple, Home teaching, serving others, helping people move, etc...

6. He doesn't give us money, he teaches us to work hard, don't waste, and to use our time wisely.

7. He teaches us how to keep things microscopically clean in the kitchen and bathroom.

8. He teaches us what priorities are. That material things aren't that important, he doesn't wear the latest styles, nor does he have to drive a newer car. He says this also teaches us Humility.

9. He teaches us to not take unimportant things to seriously- to be able to laugh at yourself.

10. He trusts us, and gives us freedom to make our own decisions. Sometimes we make a few mistakes, but we learn by these and become better decision makers.

I Love you Daddy!
