Did you know that you can make art out of microorganisms? That's what the 2021 Agar Art Contest is all about! One of our microbiology students, Caitlin Shirts, (with the help of Dr. Lauren Brooks and Trever Thurgood) has entered this contest with an impressive submission. Make sure to check it out and give her your vote! It's incredible what she was able to create using different strains of bacteria.

We are very excited about our next seminar speaker this Wednesday! Dr. Ryan Jackson is an assistant professor of Biochemistry at Utah State University. He will be talking to us about the structure and function of the CRISPR immune systems.

Check this out! On Saturday, December 4, the Intermountain Branch of the American Society for Microbiology will be hosting a virtual branch meeting. Registration is free, and there are quite a few opportunities for viewers, participants, and presenters to win gift cards and cash prizes!
Make sure to register by November 28, and if you want to do a presentation, abstracts are due November 17. Prizes are awarded to top students and outstanding postdoc presentations!
